Grand Opening October 11: Realizing the possibilities

Children who fidgeted nervously during the obligatory speeches stormed Port Washington Possibility Playground in Upper Lake Park during the official opening of play area Saturday, Oct. 11. Leading the way were Sue Mayer (right in bottom left photo), a project organizer, and her children, Sam, 7, and Danielle, 11. Kayla Bertram (left in bottom right photo) and Melanie Grudzinski played on a turtle while children ran from one area of the sprawling playground to the other in the background. The $450,000 playground, which was paid for with donations, is designed for children with and without disabilities. Hundreds of volunteers built the structure in six days last month.
